To mention that they've
made it to the level where they get offered towels make them
all laugh. For some reason the conversation then changes to
each band member's ability or non-ability to sweat causing humorous
band banter about work rates, concentration levels and diets.
When it finally looks like the topic of the 'five-a-day' intake
of vegetables is laid to rest the subject changes to the music
scene in Birmingham. Lets just say I'm told on good authority
that there isn't one. However after a little more prying it
does look like there is as I'm told that there are around three
other bands that they consider possess quality. Kerry also starts
to roll off, I'm guessing, promoters that "put on a good
show".
"There are good shows and there are great shows,"
declares Alexei. "There are promoters who try to make it
a fun night and there will be about a dozen people there but
everyone will be drunk and having fun and dancing. Then there
will be shows where there are a certain amount of people just
standing around, waiting for the clock to tick over."
The awareness of the band has risen, thanks to the help of the
independent label ''Laundrette Recording Company' run by a chap
called Wren.
"He's a brilliant guy," claims Alexei. "He's
put his heart and soul into it. They (bands) need some more
people like that. He's got a lot of good ideas. He's proactive."
Though Alexei was admittedly originally surprised by the offer
to release their singles. "He added us on Myspace and I
sent him a really arrogant message along the lines of "You’re
a record label, we're a band so put out our single" and
he replied saying "Okay we can do this, this, this. I like
these songs. Can you do this? Blah blah blah". We were
like, "…..fuck, ok then". So we put out two
songs that we recorded ourselves in a studio and a friend mastered
them on a laptop." >> |
