| “It was a
song that Bruce and I wrote at the end of Nylon Pylon that
catches the spirit of what we have now with The Whip. We never
did that one so we knew we could resurrect it and give it
life.”
The band aren’t currently signed and are apparently
in discussions to land an album deal though all being well
they should soon be releasing another dance song on the French
label Kitsumé.
At this time I realise I’ve neglected the band’s
drummer Little Fi, who is sitting opposite me perched on the
end of a sofa. I apologise and ask what it’s like to
play with the three guys.
“I did some session work with an all girl band called
‘Dead Disco’ and the first band I ever joined
was all girls. There’s not much difference really as
most of the people I come in contact with are all men.”
Suddenly there’s a snigger from the back of the room,
Fi and myself clock what we’ve just said. As it becomes
apparent to the others that we’ve just realised the
sniggers turn to laughter.
“It’s mostly guys,” she continues ignoring
the laughter. “It’s quite novel being the only
girl. All my flat mates are all men. I need more girl action.”
The laughing gets louder and Fi puts her head in her hands.
“It’s not an issue for me, the girl thing,”
she adds whilst raising her head.
The laughing continues again and Fi turns to give the guys
sitting behind her a piercing stare before she continues.
“It’s like the expectations are so low. Last night
I overheard a girl talking about a girl drummer. So she was
on the phone saying ‘ I don’t think you’d
want a girl in the band because girls can’t generally
hit’.” >>
