"They'll let you
know if you're not but I think with all the local press, local
radio and all the artistes where we were based were really interested
in what we were doing and we were getting inspired by them."
Life in the Mill, surrounded by artistes and their works it
seemed inevitable that it would have a creative effect on the
pair. Katie proudly explains that she made a paper mache dress.
Light hearted fact aside the impression is made that whilst
they may have not denied the possibility of working together
again there was a good chance of it happening.
"With all the art and the art students around we were always
dabbling in art but without being artists," begins Jules.
"We weren't trying to pretend for one minute that we were
sitting there painting pictures and making real costumes but
it was always like, hanging out with artistes, being artistic
yourself, feeling more comfortable in that area and then you'd
be thinking of about of maybe going off and being a producer.
Katie was like; "Well I’m going to carry on singing."
That slowly brought us together."
The band was effectively writing and creating music for fun
as mentioned already by Katie.
"We wrote in an honest way and not in an effort to see
how far it would get us," she says smiling.
"It was all about having fun," states Jules. "The
first party was just with our friends and it felt really good
because we were assessing their work as it was unfinished, broken
or finished and you could see them working with all these frustrations
everyday. So I could just about understand, thinking, "Why
is someone doing this sculpture of this weird shape?" It
takes time to understand people's arts in that area. So they
came to the party. We didn't have any finished songs. We had
half songs and jams. We jammed and had a mate's band come on
after and then we DJ'd and all of us had a great time...."
