| It
sounded good enough for Warner Brothers Philippines to offer
them a distribution deal that would play an integral part
to them performing in Japan.
“We were there for two weeks. It was our first out of
country performance. It was really big for us,” explains
Dice.
As mentioned before it wasn’t always this rosy for the
band.
“It was frustrating back in Cebu because the radio stations
didn’t really play local songs because bands weren’t
on labels,” states Dice. “Artistes from Cebu were
striving to make their music and hope the radio stations would
play it. K9’s brother was working in a radio station
and that was an advantage for us as we were able to have our
song ‘The Scenario’ played but they didn’t
announce who sung it. It became a hit and they were surprised
when they found out that the song came from locals. They eventually
started up special shows for local artistes. I’m not
saying that we started it but it paved the way.”
“First Cebu, then Manila, we’re slowly invading
the airwaves of the Philippines,” declares a smiling
Hi-C.
“When K9 left I didn’t know what to do. So as
we were here in Manila we thought why don’t we reach
out for the whole music scene and ask some producers and collaborators.”
“We can do that,” begins Hi-C. “We can work
with other producers and help them make their sound.”
“We can do anything,” adds Dice positively. “Our
last album ‘The Journey’ was a concept album.
It was a journey of meeting people. When we make albums we
make sure it’s a concept album. ‘The Journey’
has a totally different style in every way compared to the
other albums.” >> |
