"The
first day I met him he had me running round the garden trying
to find things that I could hit or bash. A whole new world
opened up to me. I was like "Music, fuck, wow, there’s
so much you can do with it than just an acoustic guitar and
a load of people". He’s worked through the eighties,
done all the punk stuff and worked with a whole load of people
ranging from the Fugees to the Jam. He’s quite into
his sounds which is great."
'Personal Touch' may seem apt when considering the closeness
of the people working with Naomi. As already mentioned Gavin
was introduced via the person Naomi moved in with. Gavin in
turn introduced her to Mark who became her manager, who just
happens to be her step dad and her mother is her accountant.
"They are pretty much involved," admits Naomi giggling.
There have been times when it’s been difficult working
with her step dad, but thankfully it appears not to have affected
her music.
"It’s been quite difficult learning how to be in
business with someone who is so close to your heart. There
was a point when we had to say, "right I’m now
talking business" or "I’m now talking personally"
but we’ve got through that stage now.
Business, yes, the business of selling music, made that little
bit harder now by the new chart ruling that CDs must only
contain three tracks.
"I’ve had to do it. I didn’t want to do it
because I think it’s a bunch of arse but the record
company have said because they are a small indie label they
have to be able to compete with other labels."
The former Tequila girl for a Mexican restaurant has already
admitted keenness to travelling but does she have any other
ambitions? >>
